Who messed up the calendar? Why is it New Year in winter? Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto Pope Gregory what really belongs to him.

L'éveil du printemps, par Aglane de Nivelles. On notera le trait de lunière qui enflamme la végétation. Et le petit être élémental qui y préside. Belle oeuvre symboliste. Some believe that words like primitive or primary may express contempt. Yet the best is often the beginning. The first is the top, prime time is the top too. Be the first one, it does. Spring is it not the best season? And spring means "the first time" in all latin languages. Italian Prima Vera, French printemps, season of the "primevères", from Prima Vera, in English the primrose, the first flower of spring. The round of seasons is a metaphor for life: childhood, youth, maturity, old age. Yet it seems that in our contemporary society, the spring is extolled.

Il semble que le printemps soit porté aux nues. One could go on this way and it does not surprise you more than that. So we are accustomed to the absurd,Go to page you end up finding that normal. You do not see? Caution, read well, there's a catch ... the day of the year does not make a summer! When someone tells you that spring is the first season, you forget the date of illico St. Sylvester. The month of January for you, it's spring? Uh, it's winter. Yet the beginning of the year, it is the spring, as its name suggests.

A Rome, l'Amour et Bacchus ivres. Here is the key to the mystery. Once in Rome, the year began in March. That is why we have  the month of September, meaning the seventh, that is now the ninth month. And October, which means eight, became our tenth month. November meaning nine, is our eleventh month. And December meaning ten, is currently the twelfth month. Hence, for the Roman year: January was the eleventh month, and February,  the twelfth. February, last month of the year is shorter than the others, to count the 365 days, and it is added a day every four years to recover the famous quarter-day loss of each calendar year.

Alain César en Jules ChabatSo the past yearThe year of the Gauls, or before. Go to Tuatha began March 1. The awakening of nature, the edge of life, it was certainly the most natural time to start the year. Everything could go on without Julius Caesar and his moment of madness. In -46, Julius Caesar gives the year 365 days and 12 months. He is to begin on January 1 and provides for leap years. Then in the Renaissance, Pope Gregory XIII two to three changes tinkering, but keeps the New Year on January 1. It is therefore to Caesar and Gregory ineptitudeThat of the Popes is legendary. See La face cachée de Jésus of Jesus that we have to start the year in winter.

With four month names that are fake ...

Grégoire XIII, pape du calendrier

Une fois de plus, le diable en fut pour ses frais.About this pope Gregory, there was a story where the Devil had made a pact with a Christian who had committed, in exchange for capital, to give him his soul in a certain day, and no other, and that day was October 5, 1582. Unhappily, the poor christian was unable to pay the Devil back. So when the fixed day arrived, the Devil appeared to the Christian for his due. But the alleged damned replied: "Error, Sir Satan! Today is not October 5 ! You missed the day ! Just ask these brothers, who must tell the truth."

Satan n'est sans doute pas le mauvais diable qu'on nous a dit. And lay brothers responded to Satan: "This day Today is October 15 in the year of grace 1582, by decision of His Holiness Pope Gregory XIII which has recently reformed the Julian calendar." It was true. The calendar had a leap of ten days to replace the spring equinox, buffeted by the fault of Julius Caesar. Once again, the devil was for his expenses. (source)Robert Charroux, Histoire inconnue des hommes The thing is common in medieval tales, Satan is constantly fooled by men. Probably because he is not as bad a devil as they say.
