I live in Brittany, where the fairies are Margot and Morgana, where the elves are Korrigan.<\/p>\n

Near Le Gouray in C\u00f4tes d’Armor, is a magic hill called Mount Croquelien. Covered with\u00a0bonsai trees and rugged rocks, the ancient sanctuary once belonged to the great Broc\u00e9liande or Dark Forest, granite wood\u00a0that covered all of central Brittany. Inland, everyone will tell you, Mont Croquelien is the birthplace of fairy Margot.<\/p>\n

“Queen Marguerite de Valois was nicknamed La Reine Margot, a nickname popularized thanks to the eponymous theater and the eponymous novel by Alexandre Dumas in the 19th century. Then the Margaux form was popularized in a more recently manner, according the first wine of the same name: Chateau Margaux, whose second element Margaux \u00a0is itself a variant of Margot. Hemingway, a great lover of Ch\u00e2teau Margaux, one of the first to have named his daughter Margaux under the orthographic form”<\/em> Wikipedia says.<\/p>\n

But no\u00a0one\u00a0says Marguerite de Valois was a fairy.<\/p>\n

She\u00a0was kind of\u00a0a witch actually, even if the difference between fairy and witch is often only a figure of speech. Women of great power are fairies, and they are witches as well, depending on the imagination of the passer-by.<\/p>\n

There are two kinds of fairies. Fairy tales are half-goddesses; they enjoy a supernatural power by right of birth; the fairies of old tales of chivalry have acquired their power to a lesser extent, by the study of magic books.<\/em><\/p>\n

You will find further a Breton origin which I find more convincing.<\/p>\n
