The winged bull above was the object of a cult in ancient Babylon around 750 BCE. Near him, this winged man with a lion’s head, called leontocephalin, comes from the cult of Mithra, around 380 CE. More than a thousand years separate them. Even stronger, a statue on this theme dated from 5000 years. Why have these curious hybrids haunted the imagination of primitive religions for so long?

5000 Years Forgotten

One of the oldest statues discovered to date, 5000 years old, is a leontocephalin, human figure with a lion’s head. A sphinx, one might say. That would mean forgetting that all the sphinxes in Egyptian and Greek mythologies were originally sphinges. Made famous by the myth of Oedipus, see further on, the monster who terrorized the city of Thebes had the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and the bust of a woman. She posed a deadly riddle to the travelers.

For me, the tetramorph is a memory of this original sphinge: the testimony of a forgotten reality. Like the sphinge, the tetramorph is composed of four distinct beings. These beings are so intertwined that they were thought to be one. Because they fell from the sky in an air vehicle. The tetramorph also refers to this flying machine. The merkaba is another way to present this craft: it also shows us a pre-human UFO.

The Flying Sphinge

The new religion of Jesus is very late, as I have amply shown. In the Middle Ages, no one had the slightest memory of the ancient interstellar ships that brought life to this inhospitable planet. Everything was forgotten. As proof, the gibberish of John’s Apocalypse: “The first animal resembled a lion, the second a young bull, the third had a human face and the fourth seemed like an eagle in full flight.”

The first two animals are not: they express the combative strength and ferocity that all the angels of Yahweh, marshal of the legions of angels, had. He who has a human face is an angel, not a man. The last one, finally, the Eagle, further reinforces the idea of flying characters.

These Angels were giant creatures (about 4m) capable of flying, but without wings. Rather with a jet engine on their buttocks. Or comfortably seated in spacecraft.

The oldest reference to this quadruple being is found in the Theogony of Hesiod, which evokes a monster named Phix and staying on Mount Phikion, around Thebes. The sphinge unites in her person the four creatures of the Tetramorph. As such, it can be considered the very first version of this symbolism with such a long history. I have shown that the merkaba and the tetramorph are two representations of the same phenomenon; I will do the same with the tetramorph and the sphinge. Let’s see what the scholars of yore said about it.

Oedipus and the Sphinge

The legend of Oedipus is late, but it is true: Oedipus faces the Sphinge and, terrified by its appearance, he is tempted to flee. But when she starts singing these riddles inspired by the Muses, Oedipus feels dizzy, because the chant distills in her mind a hypnotic effect that prevents her from moving. He is trying to get his act together because he knows what awaits him if he succumbs to this enchantment: rape first, then death and devouring. (source)

""The Sphinge is represented as a hybrid being, half-human, half-beast, with a head and bust of a woman on a body of a bull lion provided with a pair of raptor wings. It borrows its appearance from the Egyptian Sphinx, who also has a leonine aspect but is of male sex, with a pharaoh’s head. * (source)

Devourer

According to P. Legendre (1988), her name comes from “sphiggô”, meaning “tighten, bind tightly, tie”: she is literally “the Strangler”.

According to Euripides, the Sphinge came from Ethiopia and was sent by Hera to punish the Thebans who had insulted him. Asclépiade specifies that the Thebans were led to meet every day in an assembly to try to solve the puzzle posed to them by the Sphinx, so that she would stop taking them one by one to devour them.

M. Delcourt (1981) analyzed his iconography (vases, bas-reliefs, statuettes) dating from antiquity. It appears that what could be taken, at first glance, as scenes of pursuit and abduction, are in fact acts of sexual mating of the Sphinge with men who are almost always young: the Sphinge would be a succubus, a lascivious woman, eager for violent sexuality. This erotic dimension is confirmed by the fact that prostitutes were then called sphinges in popular language. The Sphinge is a figure of the “man-eater,” a “femme fatale” with power over life and death, held at her mercy. (source)

It should be seen as an episode of the conflict between two protohistorical worlds: the end of the reign of the Matriarchs and the emergence of patriarchy. Powerful in sexual magic, mesmerizing, fascinating, a sharp-witted awakener, clairvoyant, erudite, druid, prophetess, enchantress, dangerous man-muncher, rebellious and domineering, the Sphinge looks too much like Lilith! She is one of his daughters, or is she his mother? Why does the legend give her these animal attributes? Is it again to indicate its quadruple stellar origin?

Would she be the heir to cultures from the four constellations of Taurus, Gemini, Scorpio and Leo? There are some beautiful people, all of a sudden, on our little blue planet! Is this a way of telling us that the four founding peoples of the human race were under women’s governance?

I have this hypothesis in a corner of my aura, well warm, where I store my virtual drawer funds. One day soon, I will be ready to tell you by the menu the epic of the Great Goddesses, the trinity Isis-Hathor-Hera, the Matriarchs, warrior queens, daughters of heaven and mistresses of earth. I will tell you those whose reign has lasted so long. One day, no doubt.
