Eden Saga is interested in all religions, legends, chronicles and traditional narratives. Cosmogonies are at the heart of my research. Here are some types of cosmological myths, the most common. I will comment on them for you, then I will tell you about the cosmogony of Eden Saga, my favorite. Have a good read, give me your opinion.

 

Mythomaniac? Me?

A cosmogony is a mythological account that describes or explains the formation of the World. The word comes from the Greek cosmo- “world” and gon- “to beget.” (Wikipedia) 

When I read mythological stories, I tick. Because there are two possible definitions. For me, mythology is a guarantee of truth. But for Wikipedia? In everyday language, a myth is a buffoonery. The mythomaniac only tells lies. I’m not a mythomaniac, I’m a mythophile. I invent the word, you get the idea.

Mythophile as I am, Eden Saga is passionate about all legends and mythologies. The truth they contain is total… to those who know how to interpret them.

 

Some Original Myths

There are a large number of themes and cosmogonic variants, these myths that tell the creation of the world. Here are the most common ones, but there are others. 

— The verb: thought or speech creating the world.

— The  World Parents: the Sky-Earth couple, closely embraced, separate. And the world is born.

— The Cosmic Egg: Creation begins with the division of the egg. Who laid it? Who nursed it?

— Diving: at the bottom of the primordial ocean to collect clay that becomes Earth. 

— Original Chaos: an amorphous mass get transformed into the world. 

— The Dismembered Monster: either a humanoid giant or an ophidian sea monster. Where did they live before the World Creation? (Universalis)

 

 

Everything is true

All these creations of the world have this in common that they do not invent anything, describing what happened in a pictorial way which may seem childish. This childish side that recalls the imagination of childhood has severely damaged the historicity of legendary narratives. It is a real shame. The mythologist’s job is to go beyond childish things and bring out what lies behind them.

And here I want to pay tribute to the remarkable work of the mythologist par excellence, Mircea Eliade, who was able to decipher many myths and captivate a wide audience with her talent as a novelist.

Mircea Eliade

Mircea Eliade (1907-1986), is a Romanian historian of religions, mythologist, philosopher and novelist. He is considered a founder of the modern history of religions.

A studious scholar of myths, he develops a comparative vision of religions by finding close relationships between different cultures and historical moments

Mircea Eliade sees in cosmogony “the exemplary model anyway to do”; a kind of archetypal model of creation, the universe being the masterpiece of one or more creators offered as a model to men. 

Eliade was marked by his Catholic education and the assiduous practice of this religion throughout his life. It doesn’t matter, all the original myths were passed down not religions (which proves their sacred nature). The proof. After being a Catholic like him until 35-40 years old, after practicing some of them and studying many of them, I believe in all of them without believing in any of them. 

When we know it, we take it into account, we sort it out. And we translate… So we can recognize religious faith in the writings of a mythologist. It is the original sin of every seeker, this faith that comes from the mind, from the education received. The awakened remains beyond. He uses intention, which is faith without belief.

But Mircea Eliade is from another era, of another cloth. And the power of his research places him beyond a single religion.

 

 

Eden Saga’s Cosmology

Without claiming to equal the talent of this pathway opener, I am translating for you the six original myths listed above. I stage them in a structured, plausible narrative that is easy for everyone to understand… unless they are historians. Precision: these descriptions are not the fruit of my imagination, but the flower of my visions. They are detailed in many articles

 

1 Creation of the world by thought or word
The visitors to the space had a huge technological advance. Far from uttering inarticulate cries, they spoke an elaborate language and gave unanswerable orders. Our distant ancestors prostrated themselves with gratitude.

 

2 The Plunge at the bottom of the sea  
The primordial ocean covered a large part of the terrestrial globe. There was only one land surface, Pangaea. It was the whole Earth at that time, a handful of clay from which all the future of humanity would be born. We well suspect that from this shapeless clay was not going to emerge the well-ordered earth that our ancestors knew. What did it come out? Chaos, first.

 

3 The original chaos
An amorphous mass is giving birth to the world, it’s still the image of Pangaea. Someone dives into the ocean that covers the entire globe –liquid Pangaea– to collect this clay. Descend to the deepest depths, ascend the gold of the abyss to give life to the multitudes. Would our very distant ancestors have seen the gods before diving under the sea in submarines? The gods possessed them, as well as cars, planes, rockets…

the Ocean Titan agrees to withdraw
to allow the land to emerge.
Ocean made life on earth possible. 

 

 

4 The Parents of the world 
The closely embraced Sky-Earth couple separate. From their separation, the world is born. A god and a goddess mix and the world is born. Mi serpents mi humains, the god and the goddess give birth to the first world.

 

5 The Cosmic Egg
A variant of the previous one, everything begins with an egg. And this animal embryo is the origin of all that lives. I see here the idea that we were created without a soul by gods without a soul. Animal creation. Then, judging us to be very successful physically, the Great Goddess gave us a soul.

During the kaliyuga in which we are, this soul is not a due. She floats above us until the body is purified enough for her to incarnate. What she does in stages, chakra by chakra. It’s the awakening.

 

6 The Dismembered Monster
This last type overlaps with the Parents of the world. We were created by Dragons, Nagas, and Snakes. They had wisdom, the word, they behaved better than us who were uncultivated, without a past, without a horizon. The Great Snakes taught us everything.
